Quack Words
- QUACK WORDS are vocabulary words that everyone should know by the time they are finished with middle school. They are common words used by mature writers and speakers.
- Why “QUACK?” These words add a punch to your vocabulary knowledge and make a statement about you.
- By the end of the semester, you should know by heart approximately 40 new “QUACK WORDS.” Each week, we will study 5 new “QUACK WORDS” and use them for many of our activities and homework assignments.
- All QUACK WORD notes and assignments should be kept in your composition book unless told otherwise.
7th Grade Quack Words:
Every other week, we will study 5 new Quack Words:
WEEK ONE: jargon, jostle, jut, kindle, knoll
WEEK TWO: luminous, malleable, meander, meticulous, misgivings
WEEK THREE: monotonous, muster, obscure, ominous, outlandish
WEEK FOUR: pertinent, precipice, pristine, quell, recluse
WEEK FIVE: replenish, repugnant, restitution, scarcity, scurry
WEEK SIX: serenity, somber, stamina, subside, tactic
WEEK SEVEN: terse, translucent, uncanny, unsightly, versatile
WEEK EIGHT: vigilant, vulnerable, waft, waver, zeal
IF YOU ARE ABSENT: Define the above words on a sheet of notebook paper. After each definition, use the word correctly in a "silly" sentence and draw a simple picture to represent that word. Keep all QUACK WORDS work in the vocab section of your binder.
QUACK WORD REVIEW: We will have a review quiz after every set of 10 words. Make sure you are studying your words each week and expect to have the quiz as bellwork at some point every 4 weeks. Keep an eye on the weekly agenda to give you a warning ahead of time!
